2016 Bilingual Educator of the Year - Florida

Ana Hernandez

Third grade dual-language teacher of North Twin Lakes Elementary School, Ana M. Hernandez, was named the 2016 Read Conmigo Bilingual Educator of the Year in Florida. Hernandez was born in Venezuela and moved to the United States when she was three years old. As a child, Hernandez dreamed of becoming a teacher. She pursued her dream and received a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s Degree in Urban Education from Florida International University. Hernandez worked as an Inclusion Teacher at Feinberg Fisher Elementary School in Miami Beach, where she maintained a general education classroom with the enrollment of students with special needs. Hernandez currently teaches kindergarten through third grade at North Twin Lakes Elementary School in Hialeah, Florida. Hernandez has been teaching for more than six years and has been nominated twice for Miami’s United Teachers of Dade "Rookie of the Year” Award.
