2019 Bilingual Educator of the Year – California

Angela Medina

Angela Medina, a kindergarten, dual-language teacher, was named the 2019 Read Conmigo Bilingual Educator of the Year in California. Mrs. Medina, who teaches at Patrick Henry Elementary School in Long Beach, was nominated by a parent of one of her students. “Sra. Medina is a warm and enthusiastic teacher. She greets each student with a smile and a word of encouragement. She goes the extra mile to make her classroom the ideal learning environment and to ignite the passion for reading in her students. I feel so privileged that my daughter was able to start her formal education in Sra. Medina’s class.”

Mrs. Medina loves teaching Kindergarten and dual immersion. “It is so inspiring to see students come in and learn a new language. They’re not just learning math and reading and writing, but they’re also taking on a new environment with a new language, new vocabulary, new friends, and to see their growth from September to June always blows me away. So it just inspires me to watch them grow, to see their curiosity, and to really grow alongside of them during their kindergarten year.”

The award was presented to Mrs. Medina during Back to School Night at Patrick Henry Elementary. “It’s an honor to have our teachers be recognized. It’s one of many awards that our school has been able to receive because of the continuous work from our teachers, our students, our parents,” said Veronica Madrigal, Principal at Patrick Henry. “Due to those relationships and that commitment to just having rapport with our families, individuals like Señora Medina get recognized outside of the school setting for the impact they have on students, so what a wonderful way to celebrate on a day like today in front of our community.”

Read Conmigo is proud to recognize Mrs. Medina and we wish her even greater success as she continues her teaching career.
