2019 Bilingual Educator of the Year – Florida

Israel Garcia

Israel Garcia, a second-grade, dual-language teacher of Preston Hollow Elementary School in Dallas, was named the 2019 Read Conmigo Bilingual Educator of the Year in Texas. Mr. Garcia has been a teacher for over ten years. However, he did not set out to become a teacher. Mr. Garcia was born and raised in Central Mexico, where he graduated from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.

Upon graduating, he migrated to Texas and found his calling while working as a camp instructor with elementary-aged children. He was reluctant to pursue teaching since he had studied something else, but deep down, he knew that teaching was his true passion. In 2007, he became a bilingual teacher and has been teaching kids in second and fourth grades ever since.

What he loves the most about teaching is inspiring kids to achieve whatever they want in their future. “I love not only teaching academics, but values like diligence, effort, reliance, compassion, and awareness,” Mr. Garcia said. “I love opening the panorama for little minds.”

Read Conmigo is proud to recognize Mr. Garcia and we wish him even greater success as he continues his teaching career.
